In 2017, during my internship in Art Therapy, I had the pleasure of meeting my friend, Ruth Miras. Together, we participated in the creation of a therapy group at Valdemoro’s Madrids Penitentiary Centre. We delivered weekly art therapeutic sessions to the men residing in the mental health area of the penitentiary.

Currently, the group we established is still thriving today. Over time, participants have come and gone, and the room that once held scepticism is now a space of healing and transformation. Working in such a complex and challenging context was no easy task, but witnessing the men rebuild their stories through art was an incredibly rewarding experience.

In 2018 I moved to Scotland but I have been in touch with my friend Ruth that still works with that same group of men. A man in the group was always talking about a bird, that story became a metaphor for the entire group. The bird was present during their sessions and it eventually evolved into a short story. In 2022, I was offered the incredible opportunity to illustrate that story co-created by the participants and the therapists at Valdemoro’s Prison. I couldn't resist, and now, I'm thrilled to announce that the book has been printed!

This project has been an inspiring journey, and I'm grateful for the chance to be part of it.
